More and more people are looking for ways to look as young as they feel. As the aging process proceeds it causes the face to lose the underlying support structures of fat, elastin and collagen resulting in the skin sagging and wrinkle formation. Wrinkle or line fillers, commonly known as fillers, can give the skin back its plumped up, youthful appearance, but the key to their successful use is knowing which of the many available options will work best for you.
Fillers are commonly used to treat facial lines, wrinkles, hollow cheeks, receding chins, thinning lips and lines between the eyes, acne and other types of scars.. Other procedures such as laser treatment, which can improve the skin´s tone and texture, and Botulinum toxin, which can relax the muscles that cause wrinkling, can do many things to improve a person´s appearance. However, they cannot address the loss of volume that happens with aging. Only fillers can increase the skin´s volume, much like putty fills a crack.
Some filler are intended for superficial wrinkles and some work best for deeper wrinkles. Selecting suitable filler is an important part of the consultation.
Side effects are usually temporary, lasting only two to three hours and may include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and visible lumps. More serious side effects are rare but allergic reactions and soft tissue damage can happen.
One particular advantage of fillers is that they are temporary. You may need multiple treatments to get the desired result, and you will need to maintain the results with additional treatments over time, however if you do not like your new look it will wear off. Thus offering you reassurance you won’t be stuck with a look you don’t like.
When the proper filler is selected and used by an experienced doctor or nurse, most people will have successful results and will be very pleased.

We use the Allergan range of Hyaluronic acid derived fillers such as the Juvederm® range that contain local anesthetic for a more pleasant experience. We also use Teosyal products and others brands are available if requested. All are International companies with an excellent track record on the safety of their products. These are non animal derived products which are cross linked for longevity. These products are hypoallergenic so do not need pretesting. They come in a variery of strengths and the strength used is dependant on where you require fillers. The most common areas for fillers to be used are in the nasolabial folds [ the area beside the nose ] the top lip for smokers lines, the sides of the mouth and the lips.
The idea is to inject some of the hyaluronic acid material under the skin to lift it up so filling out the lines and softening them. Over a period of hours to days the filler sucks in water to add to the effect.
When fillers are administered by a trained doctor or nurse, complications are infrequent and usually minor in nature. Still, individuals vary greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions and their healing abilities. The outcome of treatment with fillers is never completely predictable. Each treatment carries its own side effects. The most common among these are uneven texture of the skin, swelling and scarring. The risk of these side effects is minimal.
For facial treatment there is little or no downtime. You may immediately return to your daily routine. For lip filler there is some swelling which can take a few days to settle and you may wish to take a day or two off.
These treatments have little or no downtime as opposed to skin resurfacing. Also, following treatment there is little discomfort. Results can be seen in a short time period and after only one session. Since Softine® / Juvederm® are natural compounds there is little risk of allergic reactions.
On some occasions, there is redness or swelling. This temporary discomfort may last a couple of days. There can be some bruising to especially in the lips which will settle in a week or so. Lip treatments may require some cold compress’s or pain killers such as paracetamol for a day or two.
Your results appear as soon as any swelling diminishes.
Treatments generally take about thirty to forty five minutes.
Do not consider Fillers if you have an infection at the site where they will be injected. Some conditions may increase the chance of infection, so a doctor should be advised before pursuing treatment if you have a serious medical condition, are breast feeding or plan to become pregnant.
All results vary from patient to patient. Softline®/ Juvederm® results can last for six to twelve months but everyone is different for differing reasons.
Other injectables include Fascian®, Dermalogen®, Hylaform®, Autologen® and Artecoll®. There are an assortment of other treatments including collagen creams, fruit acids, chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing and phototherapy.
The limitation of Fillers is that they fade with time and are not a permanent answer to wrinkles. Some see this as an advantage so they can try alternative fillers.
Additional treatment is not required for immediate results, but additional treatment may be required to balance up the face once the swelling settles and additional treatment is required for maintenance. Results will begin to fade, and your facial features will gradually return to their former state.
Tell your cosmetic practitioner about any allergies you have, any serious medical conditions and all medications you are taking, both prescription and non-prescription. Carefully follow any instructions given to you regarding eating, drinking, smoking and vitamins. To reduce bruising, avoid anticoagulants, aspirin and other blood thinners for a week before treatment.
Avoid vigorous activity directly after treatment, and continue to avoid blood thinners until bruising diminishes. Avoid aggressive facial massages. Q aesthetics can supply a topical cream to diminish any bruising more rapidly, just ask this to be included in your treatment plan.
